Website Privacy Policy →

This Privacy Policy describes how Resonance (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our iOS application. Resonance is a personal thought-mapping app published by Chet Tailor (“the Developer”).

For how chet-tailor.com handles website analytics, cookies, and support forms, see the Website Privacy Policy.

By using Resonance, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Summary

  • Resonance stores your thoughts and canvas data on your device, and can optionally sync them through your own iCloud account.
  • We do not operate our own servers to collect or store your canvas content.
  • We do not sell your data, show advertising, or use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the App.
  • Some features rely on Apple system services (for example iCloud, speech recognition, and optional location). Websites you add as links may receive network requests when the App fetches link previews.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

Developer: Chet Tailor
App name: Resonance
Contact for privacy questions: support page

We are the data controller for information processed through the App, except where Apple or other third parties process data under their own policies (see Section 6).

2. Information the App processes

2.1 Information you create (stored locally and optionally in iCloud)

When you use Resonance, the App may store and process:

  • Thought content — labels, notes, link URLs, and related text you enter or dictate
  • Canvas data — positions of thoughts, connections between thoughts, colors, tags (“energy”), task status, and viewport settings (pan/zoom)
  • Metadata — creation date and time, optional visit/edit counts, and similar in-app statistics
  • Optional location — if you allow Location access, latitude and longitude where a thought was created (stored with that thought and shown in the thought info screen)

This data is saved on your device and, if you are signed into iCloud and iCloud sync is available, in your iCloud Drive container associated with the App.

2.2 Information shared between the App and its extensions

If you use the Resonance widget or related shortcuts, limited data (such as draft thought text queued for the main App) may be stored in a shared App Group container on your device so the App and its extensions can work together. This data stays on your device (and in your iCloud backup if you back up your device).

2.3 Audio and speech (dictation)

If you use dictation to enter a thought title, the App uses the microphone and Apple’s speech recognition services. Audio may be processed on your device or by Apple, depending on your device and settings. We do not send recordings to the Developer’s servers.

2.4 Link previews

If you add a URL to a thought, the App may contact that website (via Apple’s LinkPresentation framework) to retrieve a page title and icon for display. That request goes to the third-party website you specified, not to the Developer’s servers. Those sites may log the request under their own policies.

2.5 Technical data on your device

The App uses standard on-device storage (including UserDefaults) for settings, sync state, and similar operational data. This information is not transmitted to the Developer.

3. How we use your information

We use the information described above only to:

  • Provide and maintain the App’s core features (canvas, thoughts, search, filters, tasks, sync)
  • Save and restore your work on your device and across your devices via iCloud (when enabled)
  • Support dictation, optional location on thoughts, and link previews as you request
  • Improve reliability of widgets, shortcuts, and in-app inbox features

We do not use your content for advertising, profiling for marketing, or sale to data brokers.

4. Where your data is stored

Location What is stored Who can access it
Your iPhone/iPad Canvas file, app preferences, App Group inbox You; anyone with access to your unlocked device
Your iCloud account (optional) Synced canvas document You; Apple under iCloud terms
Developer servers We do not store your canvas on our own servers

Deleting the App from your device removes local App data subject to iOS behavior. iCloud copies may remain until you remove them from iCloud or delete the App’s iCloud data in Settings.

5. What we do not collect or do

The App, as provided by the Developer:

  • Does not require you to create an account with the Developer
  • Does not include third-party advertising networks
  • Does not include third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs that report to the Developer
  • Does not use App Tracking Transparency or cross-app tracking for advertising
  • Does not sell or rent your personal information

6. Third parties and Apple services

Apple

Resonance uses Apple frameworks and services, including where applicable:

  • iCloud / iCloud Drive — optional sync
  • Speech recognition and microphone — dictation
  • Core Location — optional geolocation on thoughts
  • LinkPresentation — link title and favicon previews
  • Maps — when you open a thought’s location in the map view or Apple Maps

Apple’s handling of data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy and the terms of the services you use (for example iCloud and Siri/Dictation).

Websites you link to

When you save or open a URL, the remote site may receive technical information (such as IP address and user agent) as part of a normal web request. We do not control those sites.

No other third-party data recipients

We do not share your canvas content with other third parties for their marketing or analytics purposes.

7. Permissions

The App may ask for:

Permission Purpose
Location (When In Use) Optionally attach where a thought was created
Microphone Dictate thought titles
Speech Recognition Convert speech to text for dictation

You can change or revoke permissions in Settings → Resonance. Some features will not work without the relevant permission.

8. Data retention

  • Data remains on your device and in iCloud (if used) until you delete it in the App or remove the App / its iCloud data.
  • We do not retain copies on Developer-operated servers because we do not receive your canvas on our servers.
  • App Group inbox items are consumed when the main App processes them and are not intended for long-term storage by the Developer.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information.

Practical steps you can take in Resonance:

  • Edit or delete individual thoughts in the App
  • Turn off iCloud for Resonance in system Settings
  • Deny or revoke Location, Microphone, or Speech permissions
  • Delete the App to remove local data (and manage iCloud data separately if applicable)

To exercise rights or ask questions, contact us via the support page. We will respond within a reasonable time where required by law.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Children

Resonance is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, contact us and we will help you delete it where possible on your device.

11. International users

If you use the App outside your home country, your information may be processed on your device and, if you use iCloud, in locations Apple uses to provide iCloud. Apple’s practices apply to that processing.

12. Security

We rely on Apple’s iOS security for data on your device and in your iCloud account. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure; you are responsible for securing your device (passcode, Face ID, etc.).

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version at the same URL and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy where permitted by law.

For material changes, we may also notify you in the App or through App Store release notes.
